Ban Glyphosate: Get Monsanto’s Roundup Off Our Plates
Recently, I wrote an article about a new report released by Food Democracy Now! and the Detox Projet. This study exposes shocking levels of glyphosate contamination in popular American foods, including Cheerios, Doritos, Lays, Oreos, Goldfish and Ritz crackers and Stacy’s Pita Chips. Today I urge you to sign a petition against the use of glyphosate (see petition link at end of this article).
Glyphosate, the active ingredient in Monsanto’s Roundup, is the world’s most heavily used chemical herbicide/weedkiller in food and agricultural production. On March 20, 2015, the World Health Organization’s cancer agency, IARC, declared that glyphosate is a probable human carcinogen and multiple studies have linked it to serious health-related issues including cancer, liver and kidney disease, obesity, and reproductive problems.Ultra-low levels of glyphosate can cause damage to human health starting at 0.1 parts per billion (ppb). Analysis from the Food Democracy Now’s study shows the highest levels detected were found in General Mills’ Original Cheerios, which was at 1,125.3 ppb – nearly TWICE the level considered potentially harmful according to the latest scientific research in a single serving.
These results need to be a wake-up call for all Americans regarding alarming levels of pesticide residues in our nation’s food. It is unacceptable that this carcinogen is in our food. We need to demand that our regulatory agencies, like the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Food And Drug Administration (FDA) and U.S Department Of Agriculture (USDA) protect the American people from glyphosate in our food, soil, water and air!
Take action – sign the petition
Food Democracy Now! has created a petition you can sign, which calls for the EPA’s Inspector General to launch an investigation into the harmful effects of glyphosate on human health and the environment. By signing, you are also demanding the end to pre-harvest spraying of Roundup as a drying agent. The petition also requests the release of all data that Monsanto originally submitted during the approval process of glyphosate and Roundup Ready GMO crops.
