A Simple Guide to Plant-Based Protein

I want to avoid a protein deficiency while following a plant-based diet. What are some plant-based sources of protein?

Answer

My vegan and vegetarian athletes ask me this question all of the time. No matter how active you are, it is possible to satisfy the body’s protein requirements while on a plant-based nutrition program. Despite conventional wisdom, you can skip animal-based foods and still thrive.

The key is to know your plant-based sources of protein and to eat a varied, well-rounded whole food diet.

I created the chart below to help illustrate some sources of plant-based protein.

Thoughts?

Are you a vegan or vegetarian? How do you fulfill your daily protein requirements?
